Directly related to the past of the residents of Neraida, the monument of Kotzas Anastas (Great Anastasis) was erected in 2015 to honor the chieftain Anastasios Papadopoulos, who remained in Pontic memory as the “Last Akritas”: for the populations of western Pontus, he was something like their own Theodoros Kolokotronis.

Koca Anastas led the Pontic resistance against Turkish oppression and played a decisive role in the first and second battles of the Top Çam mountain range, putting first Liva Pasha and then Tamit Pasha in a difficult position. Despite his young age, he was a distinctive figure even for the Turks, as he used to fight with a knife, holding a Greek flag with the Pontic eagle in his other hand.
